Chairman and Technical Director
Dr Barrie Colvin
With almost 50 years experience of developing thermoset materials, Barrie has been involved in some very demanding applications, including deep-sea gas pipelines, high-temperature insulation, fire-retardant polyurethanes, bio-polymers, low GWP chemicals and a multitude of bespoke technical objectives. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, he has significant experience in pushing the boundaries of thermoset chemistry to ever-demanding requirements. Barrie is a keen tennis player and snowboarder. He also enjoys flying his vintage aircraft around the country. He is also a council member of the Society for Psychical Research, specialising in poltergeist activity.
Ash is the Managing Director of Ru-bix Tooling board, having spent some years in a technical service role with IFS Chemicals, a specialist polyurethane company. His role included regular visits to automotive moulding clients, assisting with the optimisation of production methods and forming an invaluable link between customer requirements and in-house R&D personnel. He currently gets involved in all aspects of tooling board manufacture with emphasis on total dedication to client satisfaction. Ash enjoys playing local rugby and shooting - both clays and wildfowl. He is also an accomplished cook.
Despite being a trained industrial chemist with significant experience in the field of epoxy chemistry (with Shell Research), Diwy is the Financial Director of Ru-bix Tooling Board. Her current role primarily involves raw material purchasing, computer hardware and accountancy functions. In addition, she acts as an important link between customer expectations and the production department of Ru-bix. Diwy is a keen tennis player and a dedicated bee-keeper. Her honey is probably the best in Norfolk.
With over 20 years experience in the tooling and composites industry, David has a wealth of information on the requirements of the advanced engineering sector. His experience has primarily involved the sale of both polyurethane and epoxy materials, including liquid chemicals and cast tooling board materials. A customer-focussed individual, David has considerable experience of the motor sport industry, including automotive design, as well as film and TV props, MOD requirements, aerospace, marine and ceramics. David is a family man with two teenage sons, and a keen interest in WW1 militaria. He manages a local under-18s football team near his home in Nottinghamshire and enjoys fishing as a relaxing pastime.
Black Lab Assistant
Rubix is a typical labrador with great character and intelligence. As a lab assistant, he works very effectively with his inbuilt ability to carry delicate items with great care. He can track items by scent alone, one of the main reasons some of his friends work for custom and excise authorities. These attributes allow Rubix to detect small levels of amine compounds, often used in epoxy and hybrid prepregs. When not at work, his main hobbies are eating and sleeping.
Hallie, the sister of Rubix, has typical female characteristics. With kind, friendly eyes which express a loving character, intelligence and a warm temperament, she excels in stress reduction and boosts staff morale. She promotes the concept of a healthy work/life balance and improves the morale of all production workers at Rubix Tooling Board. She has a dependable good nature, a sense of fun and a great love of human companionship, resulting in a pivotal position within the tooling board team. Her only hobby, at which she excels, is chasing tennis balls from dawn to dusk.
