Fast Cars, Clean Materials: Ru-Bix in the Automotive World
The automotive industry is accelerating into a new era — one where performance isn’t the only measure of success. Sustainability, efficiency, and innovation are now just as vital. At Ru-Bix, we’re proud to be playing a part in this transformation, supplying high-performance, resource-conscious tooling materials that are shaping the cars of tomorrow.
Driving Sustainability with Halo-S
Our Halo-S range of tooling boards has become a go-to solution for forward-thinking automotive designers and manufacturers. Unlike traditional tooling materials made primarily from petrochemicals, Halo-S boards are made using recycled plastics and non-food, plant-based resins, significantly reducing their environmental impact.
These boards don’t just tick the green box — they also deliver exceptional thermal stability, fine surface finish, and low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), all of which are critical in precision automotive applications.
Automotive Applications in Action
Two standout projects exemplify how Ru-Bix is helping redefine automotive manufacturing:
- The Callum Skye, a ground-breaking electric off-roader, was built using direct tooling from Halo-S 750 boards, combined with Scottish-grown flax fibres instead of carbon fibre. The result? A lightweight, high-performance body with dramatically reduced embodied CO₂ emissions.
- The Ariel E-Nomad, another high-performance electric vehicle, took a similar route. Halo boards were used in the tooling process, while the composite structure used natural fibres and ribbed reinforcement to save weight and cut emissions — with the flax-reinforced panels achieving up to 73% CO₂ savings compared to conventional carbon fibre components.
The Power of Direct Tooling
One reason Halo-S boards are so effective in reducing emissions is the ability to go from block to tool without the need for intermediate plugs or master models. This direct tooling approach streamlines production, saves time and material, and lowers the carbon footprint profile of the resulting direct tooling layouts.
The Road Ahead
At Ru-Bix, our mission is clear: empower the automotive sector to build faster, smarter, and greener. As electric vehicles, composite chassis, and bio-based materials become the norm rather than the exception, we’ll continue to develop the tools needed to bring those innovations to life.
Fast cars deserve clean materials. Ru-Bix is helping the industry shift gears toward a more sustainable future — without compromising on performance.
